All our Oak is air dried, much of it however is then kiln dried. Oak must be air dried for minimum 1 year per 25mm of thickness, this brings the moisture content down close to the equilibrium for the place it is stored (typically 12 to 18%),. More importantly it helps to release many of the tensions that are always present in timber.

All internal joinery, furniture or flooring should be oiled or varnished. This will prevent the timber from getting dirty and most importantly help to keep it square and straight. By oiling both sides of a panel you balance the porosity of the board to water vapour making it less likely to warp, if one side has a moisture content of 14% it will swell compared to the other side at 10%.
