Oak Frame Buildings
We reckon if we asked an oak tree what it would like to become as it matured, the answer would be an oak frame building, so simple and elegant is the transition from tree to beam to building and so timeless are the methods employed by our expert framing team.
We use the same techniques as past master craftsmen and cut the same joints that were perfected hundreds of years ago. Even the names; hammer beam truss, scarf joints, king and queen posts and of course, mortice and tenon joints, echo with tradition.
Our expert framers skilfully fashion these joints so that the frame pulls tight as it dries naturally. This is essential as green oak can have a moisture content of up to 70%. On site here in Tetbury our own office showcases how these techniques can be used to make the most of space and the beautiful source material. Just let us know if you’d like to visit.
